The Secret to Walking Off That Belly Fat

By Tracy Teare
From Health magazine

Sure, you know walking is good exercise. But here’s something you might not realize: You can give your waistline (and other body parts) a serious trimming by tweaking that walk around the block. The three women on the next pages each walked off at least 35 pounds, much of it around the middle, using one of these secret weapons—plyometrics, hills, or intervals. The strategies also strengthened their legs more quickly than plain old walking sessions, so they could walk longer and faster to burn more calories. After six weeks of walking four to six times a week, you will feel stronger and look slimmer where it counts.

I am a trainer and have to say this is great advice. The key to maximum fat burning is to vary your workout regularly and to increase the intensity. Shorter high intensity workouts burn significantly more fat than longer lower intensity sessions. If you’re healthy enough to do sprints add them twice a week for amazing results.

Umer, you can add basic crunches and reverse crunches 2-3 times a week if you wish, but the fact is to reduce a bulging belly following the article’s advice and following a sensible diet will get you quicker results.

Interval training works.I worked out on a elipitcal machine for 1 hour at a good pace. I started interval training for 30 minutes and felt the difference. I lost more weight and looked more cut up.

hi Mohammad, blood pressure is the rate and intensity that your heart pumps blood out and takes blood in (systolic and diastolic pressure/ venous flow). The harder your heart works or is diseased in any way (as with the arteries (arterial plaque) and other connections to your heart) the higher your BP is. Its a good indicator to tell you if you have problems. Get your blood pressure checked by your local physician if you are concerned.

sally bugg, have you thought of aqua aerobics, exercise in the water? I normally recommend to my clients with similar problems such a course of exercise as it is weight supporting with a hydro belt, minimal impact on your joints AND FUN!. please make sure you get your physicians clearance before commencing any exercise program if you have not been physically active in the last 12 months.
