All About Dr. Oz’s New TV Show

americas-healthiest-family

Teresa Hogan
Mindy Berry Walker
From Health magazine

After 5 years as the health expert on the Oprah Winfrey Show, Dr. Oz kicks off a daily show Sept. 14. Watch the show at Doctoroz.com (or find listings for the syndicated program in local TV market). Here’s what he wants you to know about the show:

Go to his show…
And you may end up on stage. “It feels like a big party with experts teaching people dancing, yoga, pull-ups, all on stage. We also have a segment called ‘Ask Dr. Oz,’ where you can ask me a question on anything—nutrition, fitness, staying young, relationships, stress, money, parenting.”

Dr. Oz may knock on your door
“We have lots of segments where we go into people’s homes and get involved in their lives and find out how we can help.”

You get more than facts
“Just knowing that smoking can cause lung cancer is never enough to make a smoker quit,” Dr. Oz says. “You have to reach people emotionally, too, which is what Oprah does so well. I’m excited to connect with audience members. I want to inspire them to make life-changing behaviors.”

    Dr Oz,

I seen you on the Oprah show discussing hair loss, my son just recently turned 18 years old and is experiencing hair loss. I took him to the dermatologist and the doctor told him to take biotin vitamins and rogaine. I seen the show on oprah, and you were discussing hair loss and there was a lady who had a small tumor. My son has something the size of a walnut in the back of his head I took him to the doctor and he said not to worry about it if it was bothering him, but after I seen you on the oprah show I was wondering if this could be the cause of his hair loss. He is sad sometimes and has loss of self esteem because of his hair loss. Do you have any advise or suggestions on how to get help for him. Thank you for listening, please respond.

    • Jennifer

I’ve having problems with my hair loss. Turning my 50 has changed my body and hair loss. Does it have to do with my hormones changing? I dye my hair every 2 weeks to cover my 80% of gray hair which my hair is black. Is hair coloring causes my hair loss due too much every 2 weeks. My hair grows so fast! My hair fall out a lot daily every day. Is that normal? My hair is very thick but I noticed my front hair starting to thinning (not as bad). What is your suggest? Help me.

      • Barbara Sue

My dear jennifer. I discovered for myself what hair dying does. It makes your hair fall out maybe even die. Early on I switched to giving my hair “rinses” only. A rinse does not contain peroxide or ammonia or any of that harmful stuff that makes your hair fall out (or die). It’s messy come to think of it but I don’t mind. I’d rather have my hair than worry about a little messy. Good Luck Bon chance Have a nice day

Dr. Oz, please, help me and others that have this
chronic illness Fibromyalgia. If you have gone over this before, I missed it, and please have a segment of your show on this terrible illness. I have had it
for just over 2 years and Im still finding out things
I didn’t know about FMS and how disabling it can be for me and others, or how some people can go about their lives like nothing is wrong. The pain is very
bad sometimes and I know excercise is good for me, but I just can’t seem to get going many days. My family has alienated themselves from me calling me a drug addict. I no longer have contact with them. I have basically no friends left. There is no support group locally. Please, please, help me Dr. Oz. I know that there are many sufferers out there that can use your help, also.

    Thank you so much,

    Sincerely yours, Sheryl Reese
    Modesto, California

    • Sunny Black

Sheryl, join a Research group, I did and got free info and meds for Fibromyalgia. I know how very painful it can be. Right now I’m taking Cymbalta(an anti-anxiety med that I took during the research project at Summit Research here in Seattle) and Tyleno Arithritis. They both help tremendously.
      I pray for you,
      Sunny

My wife has been under various Doctors care for the last 8yrs. for an infection on top of her head,I’m afraid that she may go into depression because of this. There have been 4 plastic surgeries, and various trips to the hospital for extra stitches. The last surgery was done on July 2,2009.We cannot get these wounds to close and we are using wet,dry Sodium Chloride Irrigation soaked pads. It’s a staph in 3 places on her scalp. She has had brain surgery just about 8yrs. ago. We need help seems desparate!

  • Shari Schneider

Dear Dr.Oz, my name is Shari, and I’ve seen you so many wonderful times with Oprah. I have a disease that takes sometimes years to diagnose. In 1984, I was finally diagnosed with Interstitial Cystitis. The pain is unbearable. Luckily, even in Jackson, Ms., I have the finest pain management doctor around. His medication over all these years has gradually changed, and now I’m taking a very high dose of narcotics, but I’m never high from it. I was wondering why that disease is never mentioned. Many women think it’s just a bladder infection over and over. Could you please explain this to your audiences, and tell them the signs of it and what to do for the pain? There is no cure yet. Thank you so much. You will help lots of people across the country with this topic, I’m sure.

Dr. Oz, I am 58 years old and have been working and active all my life. The past 8 years have been much more stressful and I did retire 15 months ago. I noticed that over the past 5 or 6 years my ability to cope with stress has changed for the worse. I am really tired each day. It’s just not like me. I normally love to exercise and do yoga. I am very much a people person and now I don’t even want to go out to be around people. I asked my doctor about it and she said I was just getting older – but I am concerned about adrenal problems. My husband does not seem to understand my concern. Am I over reacting? What kind of doctor should I go see?
    Thank you.

    • Merriee

Six weeks ago I woke up feeing like I had some sort of terrible flu. I had a headache, was dizzy, felt nauseous especially when I walked around, and felt incredibly week and fatigued. I had a small appetite, not normal. I felt too sick to read. I went to two doctors and received en ekg and all the obvious blood tests–everything came thru O.K. I expected to feel better in a few days but it is now 6 weeks later and I still feel incredibly weak and fatigued and unable to carry on my normal daily activities. I have been to several doctors and they have not been able to diagnose this. In the months previous to this I had been thru a very stressful period–can extensive periods of stress result in such a health situation? I don’t feel depressed about anything specific in my life–except this recent inability to feel better….Any ideas? Thanks!

In 2003 hepatic cysts were found in my liver 12.5×14x11 cm. They were determined to be simple cysts and I had no symptons. We have had MRI every year and the size is now 19×19.6×14.2 cm. Still I am unsymptomatic. Fenestation has been suggested but I have a history of a pulmonary embulism, and do not want to undergo unnecessary surgery. Is there a risk of doing nothing? Thank you for your time.

Dr Oz, for 9 months i had been bothered with small itchy places on skin, mainly on legs, ankles, hands. my doctor ran tests on blood finding no problems. The biopsy showed LICHEN PLANUS. He prescribed HALOG 0.1% CREAM. Do you know of anything to cure this? I am 77. Thank you!

    Dr Oz,
I am a 33 yr old lady and a mother of four boys and i just found out i have a mass in my left breast.
I been have problems with my breast for 3 years and two of the Dr just did’t worry about it. I have leakage and it is not pretty and i also having problems with the nipple. I know that my grandmother was in here 30 when she first found out she had breast cancer. I try to research about breast cancer and it freaks me out because i have a lot of those sign. People tell me not to worry until i find out about the test. I go on the 24 for a Mammography(Diagnostic Bilat) whatever that may be. So if you can do a show about breast cancer or give any information out that would be Great.

    Thank you
    Tammy

Sleeping problems keep me awake all night at times. I drink 1 cup of coffee in the morning and that’s all the caffeine consumed until the next morning. I sleep alone in a double bed that is 20+ years old. I am an unconventional nurse who doesn’t take drugs or drink alcohol. Please don’t say the obvious of getting a boyfriend and start drinking red wine. Although both are appealing I’d rather another alternative if you have one. I cannot turn my mind off thinking of every event in my day. I call it major stressing. Other than that I’m happy, healthy and what more could I ask for?

I HAVE OTHER PROBLEMS AND THIS REALLY IS BOTHERSOME FOR ME. I HAVE MAJOR ALLERGY PROBLEMS AND CANNOT GET THAT ALLERGY TESTNG. I WILL PATIENTLY WAIT FOR YOUR REPLY. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR TIME.

Dr. Oz…wish you were in my Texas neighborhood.
Well, through yuour show and e-mail, you are almost here. 7 years after prostate seeding and radiation, and yearly PSAs of 1 or less, suddenly, it was 24, 28 & 30. No PSA change taking antibiotics, so had CT and Bone scans that showed the cancer had returned to prostate and spread to lower lymph areas and 2 ribs. Went on to hormonal treatments. These doctors have no dietary or any other suggestions for me.
I’m told “See ya in 3 months.” Isn’t there anything I can do to help???

I have a question about my health:

I noticed about 15 years ago while wearing acrylic nails, that I continued to get a nail fungus on my right hand only. I had to stop wearing nails because the condition became worse.

Last year, Oct.08, I was diagnosed with Pageants Disease of the right breast. I had a double mascetomy in Jan.09, and followed up with breast reconstruction surgery. I had a Deip flap procedure, and this presented a long recovery time.

The flap failed on my right breast, and some of the skin died, but the left breast healed very well.

While healing after several procedures, I was diagnosed with leaking veins, and I have recently gone through 2 surgical procedures for both legs.

The left leg healed after the procedure that was done on Oct. 6-09.My right leg was done on Oct.
20-09. It has not healed, and I am calling the doctor tomorrow because I am still in terrible pain.

I waxed floors one evening, and suffered terrible pain in my right shoulder and arm. I went to the hospital because I could not stand the pain. They diagnosed me with Bursitis, and explained it to be somethig to do with scar tissue. This happened 2 more times, and I just took pain medication and stayed in bed for several days.

I also had terrible pain one evening, in the right leg, with no relief for 2 days.

My concern is everything is on the right side. I have mentioned this to several doctors and they say my blood work came back fine. They will see me next year. I was just wondering if you have any thoughts on the fact that my body does not heal as fast, on the right side.

    Thank you,
    Gayle Inge

I’m not sure if Dr. Oz will actually have time to read this but it would be wonderful if he could try.
For a year now my mom has been getting U.T.I’s every other month or so.When she went to have bladder stones removed about 5 months ago the urologist told her she shouldn’t get any more. But since then she’s had at least 3 more.I need to mention that she had cervical cancer 10 years ago and had chemo. and radiation along with radiation implants.Afterwards the oncologists did surgery to reconstruct her bladder and colon. Now she has a colostomy and urostomy. One Dr. told us the infections are caused from scar tissue in the uriter tubes (from radiation)
causing her urine to back up in her kidneys.
each time she gets another U.T.I it damages her kidneys even more.It breaks my heart to just watch her suffer and not be offered any real help.Although the hospital Dr.s did start putting stints into her uriter tubes about one year ago to help some but it’s not a cure.Is there a such thing as laser surgery for scar tissue and if so do you think it could help cut down on the number of U.T.I’s she’s getting?
    Thank you for your advice

On your show today, you had a gentle man talking about salt. You showed excess salt and how much in daily eating. I missed a good part of what you said. I am interested in your remarks regarding what you told the gentleman, because I too have that that problem and what to know how and what to do about that problem. Thank you very Much,

Dr. Oz: My hero! I just discovered that you practice Integrative Medicine. I am a 69 year old widow, recently diagnosed and treated for Stage One lung cancer. I never smoked, I work hard to take care of myself, and I came through surgery with flying colors because of my good health. No chemo; no radiation but that doesn’t completely set my mind at ease. I visited the Block Center in Chicago where I became actively involved in treatment of my disease. I have read and done extensive research about cancer…. the causes, the possible cures, and the many ways to hold it at bay. I recently saw your segment where you discussed the foods that one can eat to help prevent cancer. It was short, not too informative, and very disappointing because you could have given so much more informative information. I’m one who knows just what foods and whole mind-body experiences can do in treating cancer. You could have devoted one entire program to the benefits of treating oneself who has been diagnosed with cancer. Have you read, “The China Study?” As a result of my reading that book I became vegetarian and in three short months shaved 20 points off my cholesterol and 100 points off my tryglycerides. I talk with cancer patients every day. They (we) are all scared and we need people like you to help us through this difficult period. I personally feel you have TONS more to tell people about the disease and the positive treatments that one can do to keep the cancer from raising its ugly head again. Traditional therapies are a MUST… but you can supplement that with diet, supplements, exercise and other therapies. Since I’ve become a cancer survivor, I’ve become accutely aware of the prevalence of cancer in our society. It’s scarey. Please, please focus more attention on this subject. New clinical trials are available every day, trials that are stopping the disease in its tracks! The “Big C”, while having a negative conation, does not mean that you have been given the death sentence. You need to spread that message. Keep up the good work! I’ve always been a “why” person and you provide answers to so many of my questions.

    Your most ardent fan,
    Cathy

Hi my name is Eve Andrews and i’m really struggling with my bladder and a constant urge to keep it void. i’m always treated for a bladder infection with antiobiotics and they dont work. i’ve read horror stories about IC (which is affecting thousands) on the internet and that put a new perspective on the words medical ‘practice’ for me because it seems like no doctor on this earth fully understands this and there is no hope and no cure. is there? I AM FIFTY YEARS OLD AND BEEN TAKING GENERIC LEVOTHYROXIN 88MCG TAB FOR PAST TWENTY YEARS AND NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEM BUT FOR PAST FEW WEEKS I HAVE BEEN FEELING SHORT OF BREATH. I EXERCISE EVERY MORNING FOR 90 MINUTES AND THEN I TAKE MY MEDICINE AND EAT AFTER HALF HOUR. THE DAYS I EXERCISE HARD I FEEL MORE AND IF I EXERCISE IN MODERATION MY SHORT OF BREATH IS LESS AND ALSO EVERY TIME I EAT I FEEL BETTER AS I COME CLOSE TO BED TIME I START TO FEEL BATTER. I DO NOT WANT TO GIVE UP MY EXERCISE.I BEEN TO MY DR. AND EVERYTHING WAS OK WHAT I WANT TO KNOW IS WHEN IS A GOOD TIME TO TAKE MY MEDICINE.

Monday night 1/4/10 on your show was a product syrup I think that you could put in water or food to help relive stress. Could I please get the name of that and where to get it. I have a lot of stress in my life and have gained 30 lbs over the last couple of years do to stress. A few of those pounds might of come from quiting smoking a few years ago also, but the product was put on the tounge with an eye dropper. I also have high cholestrol and am going to start taking Crestor. I tryed to just watch my diet and take fish oil and red rice yeast which brought it down from 265 to 228. I feel its time to get back on a medication to get it back down. I would like your opinion on this crestor if you could please. My good cholectrol(LDL)isn’t to good either (153).

    Thank You
    Charise

    p.s.

    I love your show.

Hi Dr. Oz I always watch your show and it is very
enjoyable plus very interesting to know about our
health. You are very straight forward about all things and you explain everything very well. My question is something I heard and I don’t know much
about it. What is thermography which they say vs
mammogram? I was wondering is it any better than
the mammogram and does it hurt as much?
But also, I hear it may cause cancer, too.

    Thank you much,
    Diana

    Dr. Oz,
I have watched your show and appreicate your advice. I had surgery a month ago on my spine and a month before I took hydroco/apap 5-325mg to relieve the pain. It has been a month now and my stomach is out of whack. I stomach is alway upset and I get light headed. My Dr. has put me on omeprazole and iron tablet about a two weeks ago. So far it hasn’t help that much. Can you give me any more information on what I should do. I would appreciate any advice. I was a vey heathly person before the surgery and do not understand what is going on. I have no pain in my stomach, always feel sick.
    Thanks, Shirley

Dr.Oz, I am a huge fan of your books and your TV show, thanks for all your good health advise and for making it interesting! I am currently experiencing sudden High Blood Pressure, it actually fluctuates between 120/70 to 165-95 in the same week! I have always had now BP and it was never a concern. First question is, could this be due to the on-set of menaupause, I am 47 and haven’t had a period in 9 weeks. Second question, would you recommend natto in capsule form, is it beneficial, or do the gastric acids render it ineffective?

    Thank you so much,

    Jeanne
