The number of women opting for breast reductions has jumped 25% in recent years—to 106,000 in the latest annual count by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). Experts say women who could benefit from a reduction often complain of:
- Pain in the shoulders, back, and neck
- Rashes on the undersides of the breasts
- Difficulty running, jogging, or playing high-impact sports, or golfing because breasts get in the way
- Asymmetry, where one breast may be as much as two cup sizes larger than the other

No one “needs” breast reduction. Please keep in mind this is major surgery. There has been a recommendation recently that women who have breast surgery (whether enlargement or reduction) have a tissue test for breast cancer so please talk to your doctor about that option.

There are risk factors involved in breast reduction i.e breast mammoplasty- This is considered as a surgical procedure which makes use of the medicinal approach in order to reduce the breast size.

Great post. Breast reduction is something that takes a lot of guts not only to consider but to do. Please read http://www.cosmeticprocedures.com if you are thinking of undergoing such an operation. There are lots of questions that need to be answered before, and finding the right surgeon is a must.
This post didn’t mention the emotional pain that comes with having large breasts. Kate, I disagree that no one “needs” a breast reduction. I just had one and it was the best decision I ever made. In addition to immediately relieving back pain, it has restored my confidence.

you say it was your best decision would you mind telling me why you had one and did you have alot of pain before the reduction
Someone please HELP I can’t live with these scars on my shoulders and the daily pain.I am a 40M I carry this painful load everyday not to mention the stares and hurtful comments I receive daily from people they are even worst than the actual pain.I have no insurance and is currently unemployed.
I found this post when searching for information about breast reductions. I am trying to out weigh the pros and cons. Due to my large breasts I suffer from major back pain, neck pain and headaches. All other factors of myself are healthy. I also am unable to run with my young children due to my large breasts so it’s a hard decision but I need to discuss with my doctor of course, just hoping to find some further research online to discuss with him more openly.
Thanks for this post. http://happilyblended.com
