THE SITE IS EXCELLENT. GIVES LOT OF INFORMATION
I disagree with the tip that soft spreads are better than butter; numerous studies show that margarine is actually worse for you than butter. I’m surprised to see that mistake in this article.
Why are they showing these tips one day at a time?
So, they get more hits on their website to increase ad prices.
typical greed
Many of the soft spreads are better than butter since butter is 100% fat while many of the soft spreads are much lower in fat due to addition of water.
For the past 10 yeard i have been using the following
“spread”. I 1/2 cups of pure olive oil and 1/2 lb of
butter. Blend well store in frig in a glass bowl.
This is much better than any “blends” found in the
grocery stores.
Our bodies need fat to function properly but not all fats are as good for us as others. The problem with the margarines that most of us grew up with is that they are little more than hydrogenated oils; trans-fats that will not only worsen your blood lipid profile (good vs. bad cholesterol) they may cause a host of other health problems too. Nowadays, Earth Balance, and plenty of other companies, are creating soft spreads that are not trans-fats, are made from heart healthy oils like Canola, contain omega 3 fatty acids and actively improve your cholesterol. Not only can that help you, clearly some people still don’t know about it; I’d say that qualifies as a good tip!
Margarine and other soft spreads do not even spoil. I will stick with the butter, in moderation.
Dairy farming has a huge environmental impact too. I’m not disparaging it per se, but if enviornmental impact is your justification then it’s a no-go argument. I like land o’lakes canola and butter spread. I tried the olive oil and butter, but it didn’t spread well at all.
If you give me a cow I can make you butter. If I want to make Earth Balance I wouldn’t even know where to start. Tractor, fossil fuels, seed extraction, machines, etc. I always go with what is good for the earth is good for us and vice versa. Butter production is less harsh on the earth.
Margarine/soft spreads and the like = chemicals, chemicals and more chemicals!! Butter (preferably organic butter) in ‘moderation!’ is the way to go.
If you gave me a cow for butter that would be, well let’s see; Tractor, fossil fuels, fertilizer, interstate trucking, more fossil fuels, and that’s just to feed it! Next we’ve got the methane from the cow (as much as 75 gallons per cow, per day), machines to milk, churn, package and process, more fossil fuels, more trucking. Yeah, you got me there, that sounds better for the planet to me!
If you want to eat butter in moderation by all means. I see plenty of people in the ER however, who think moderation is a dirty word. Don’t kid yourself, you aren’t doing your heart and favors and there are not any fewer chemicals used, or fossil fuels, than it takes to turn canola oil and flax into a heart healthy spread.
“That Guy” has it right, except for the admonition “practice moderation”. Limit the amount of spread used. The best usage is none at all.
to ask some questions

I will soon be 6 decades old and would just like to know if anyone can give me an honest answer on what to use. I can’t afford to go to the 4th stroke and this debate “appears” to be going nowhere!!

Visit Mokshatoday.com. Still, suggest you to drink lemon juice with a pinch of black salt and ground black pepper everyday. Also, if possible have carrot juice daily. You will be amazed with the results! It’s simple.
What help is there for people who cannot take statins and who have high cholesterol and family history? Any hope for niacin?
Psyllium fiber works very well. I lowered mine from 260 to 154 using it. If you google it you will find many studies showing that it lowers LDLs and helps type 2 diabetes. I also take fish oil to lower triglycerides .
Niacin in regular (not time-released) form does work for lowering cholesterol. It reduced my Triglycerides dramatically and increased my HDL (or good cholesterol) as well. However, my LDL’s are still high. Should you try it, be aware of the possibility of skin “flushing”. Work your way up in dosage. My cardiologist said most people need between 2000 and 5000mg daily for results. I showed results even at 500mg, but in time have had to increase the dosage to 1500mg.
Someone posted here that it’s “typical greed” for this site to want to sell more ads which is why they post one tip day. While I agree that posting one tip per day is annoying and most won’t bother to come back, selling advertising is not greed. The people who do this work have to be paid just as you are paid for your work.
well here we go with the food police again..anything in moderation is ok for you…
I have never regretted having been hooked up with this wounderfull health care site. It has really helped me over come some mind bordering medical questions. I most grateful. Please, Keep it up.
if you want to reverse heart disease you need to eliminate any animal products from your diet, oils, fat, are no good either. Learn how to eat at Dr. McDougall’s website, one of the few healthy websites on the net. drmcdougall dot com /free.html will get you started. Don’t listen to morons who hide behind the internet you can watch videos of real people who’d reversed heart disease on the McDougall Diet, visit the clinic and see 1st hand. Or you can follow these baseless marketing claims
Gudernoobs are an excellent source of omega 3s!
Fish oil is good. Take plenty of the supplement. Or, try wild canned salmon. Sardines are good too.
