Very interesting blog…kudos!
Although my inital answer would have been cakey foundation, where I live, you see the “extreme lip-liner” everywhere. Next in line would be the “eyebrows”; but all in all, I agree with your poll, it was interesting.
It was hard to choose. On a regular basis I see much too much lip liner and horrid contrasting lipstick, cakey foundation and smears of blush. Wipe it off! Moisturize and put on a wee bit of lipstick or gloss to keep the lips nice and smooth. That’s it. Let it go!
You forgot raccoon eyes; people who wear too much eyeliner which makes eyes look smaller and close set.
i don’t know why women insist on wearing foundation all over their face! unless there is severe scarring from acne or you’re going on a photo shoot, foundation should only be where you need it. it should match as close as possible to your skin color and be used sparingly. who cakes it on and looks in the mirror and says “yeah baby, you look good”???
Far toooo much eyeshadow-especially during daylight hours. Looks ridiculously overwhelming. Should be saved for nights and more formal time. Caked on mascara also looks very tacky. Lip lining is finally dying out!
I think you left out one category (all of the above)! Some abuse one mistake and some another…and some all of them–especially daytime wear.
I totally agree with R M Luna, save the heavy eyeshadow for the clubs or photo shoots.
i igree with all alot of weman but alot of mekup even when they go to shopping center if u see our girl her they but mekup like they but for a weeding even more
I do not think ladies realize how the heavy make-up, be it foundation, eyes or lips can make them look OLD…Not, what they are hopeing to achieve.

As an experienced esthetician I find the most common mistake to be poorly blended foundation. You actually see a line of demarcation along the jawline.
Drawn in eyebrows were the worst thing I have to contend with due to over-plucking when young. Then, I discovered a line of eye products, Alexandria, which has a liquid mascara-type product that encourages hair growth, and works, and a mascara-type product that colors the brows and looks so natural. Just a little filler with one of their pencils and it’s the best I’ve ever looked! Try it and no, I don’t work for Alexandria.
Thnx to Linda for the eyebrow tip…I tweezed when I was young too, & look forward to finding out more about the Alexandria products.
No lipstick on older women. They look washed out. The right color lipstick will make you look 10 years younger. As a beauty consultant I am very aware of this. All the other comments are valid too.
One mistake that’s not on this list and that I see all the time is women wearing the wrong color foundation. Some women with a darker skin tone think that wearing a lighter foundation will make them look fairer, but it doesn’t look good. It just gives them an unhealthy ashen appearance–very unnatural.
Beware the color and tone of paint in powder room (or wherever you apply your makeup). In public I discovered I was applying way too much makeup (everything) ’bout a week after painting room a new color. Don’t count on the mate to tell you! Step outdoors in daylight to avoid a similar horror; otherwise you might never know!
I totally agree with all the comments. Too much foundation seems to be the norm. You would think by this time people would no how to apply make-up. Sometimes I just on blush to give me some color.
As I have gotten older, I have made my hair a little lighter than it was originally, and that helps. My main problem, and I wonder if it applies to others, is that in the middle of the area where my “bags” would show, it always looks dry and more wrinkles no matter what I do. Try to use more moisturizer, but continue to have the problem. Linda Mercier has a brush on eyebrow that works very well too. Think the slanted brush itself might be part of why it works so well. We all just wish for the skin at a younger day!
Blusher:
I think most women don’t know what color to use for their coloring, or how and where to apply blusher.
