Healthy Hair: Hair-Friendly Foods for Any Age

By Danielle Braff
From Health magazine

Beans
As the saying goes, they’re good for your heart…and your hair. The protein makes hair grow faster and stronger.

Walnuts
Nuts are loaded with omega-3 fatty acids, which play an active role in hair health.

Eggs
They’re high in vitamin B12, a nutrient often lacking in women with hair loss.

I’m 45,went on a diet 4/10/08 and lost 26 lbs in 4 months. Did not take a multivitamin on a regular basis. Began loosing hair about mid August, average of 300 hairs per washing. I went to a doctor, received a clean bill of health. I am taking a prenatal vitamin per my doctor but continue to loose hair, its been more than 8 weeks. Any suggestions would be helpful

I have a rare liver disease and I’m taking two different meds for this plus a multivitamin. My hair is falling out very fast. My thyroid test was 3.53. I’m getting nervous that I won’t have hair much longer. This has been going so for about 9 months. I’m 54. Please help!

I have a bowel disease and if I do not eat enough protein I lose 200+ strands of hair a day. I have voiced my concerns to several of my doctors and no one has seemed concerned. I learned to increase my protein intake on my own which stopped a lot of it. I think protein and the right amount for a person must be very individual because I have to eat 80 grams+ a day to prevent the excessive hair loss. So your dieting may have not provided all the protein you needed. It is worth a try.

I was going bald…went to a dermatologist who said to use minoxidal…then saw a guy on TV saying he takes Biotin (a supplement) to keep his hair…tried it 2x daily & my hair is coming back plus a surgical wound to my bellybutton from 2yrs ago is now healing better & shrinking…I also take Vitamin D plus prenatal vitamins as the surgery gave me 7 or 8 infections & I have been very ill…don’t take too many supplements though as they may be toxic…only 1 or 2 a day…good luck
