For Nancy
Try a tablespoon of flaxoil for inflammation. take it in some yogurt first thing in the morning. weight loss and glucosamine will help also curcumin is great for inflammation. Vitamin C and B are good. Pilates and Alexander Technique will help build muscles to strengthen your back and improve your posture. I have the same problem as you but take no meds at all and have no pain.

I, too have osteoarthritis in my lower back. I do not take any drugs. Except for CosaminDS ( glucosomine'chondroitin). It is working. The biggest help is strengthening the muscles in my abs and lower back. It has made a HUGE difference. Situps and back extensions (on a stability ball) are fabulous. I am stiff in the am, so I do a few back exercises in bed (knees to chest, one knee at a time to chest, and pelvic tilts). It loosens everything up.

For Cheryl:
Try cutting way back on refined flour products and white sugar because they cause inflammation in the body. Unfortunately, as difficult as it is, losing weight will help take pressure off the joints affected. Try eating a balanced diet from meats and veggies with some fruit - cherries are VERY good for alleviating inflammation and all types of berries, especially blueberries, are FULL of anti-oxidants and other great for you stuff - they are called "Super Foods". Grape juice or one glass of red wine a day is great for anti-inflammation too. Also, try fish oil supplements and ginger supplements as these are anti-inflammatory natural food-based supplements. Also, glucosamine sulfate w/MSM could help, or glucosamine w/chondroitin. Lortab is a VERY STRONG narcotic pain reliever and you are right in wanting to get away from it.

We have recently started using essential oils in our home for many 100% natural alternatives. They have replaced most of our over the counter drugs. We feel much better about using them on our kids then all the other medicine but also go to the doctor when needed. It's just nice to have an alternative that you can feel good about and that works so well. Our blog is www.doterrahealth.com if you want to find out more.
