1. Hangover helper
Party too hard? Spoon a few tablespoons of honey on toast to feel better fast, says Audrey Halpern, MD, a headache specialist and neurologist in New York City. Honey is loaded with fructose, which speeds up the metabolism of alcohol.
2. Boo-boo mender
Honey has antibacterial properties and is proved to speed up healing, so treat minor scrapes, cuts, or burns to a touch of honey, says Joseph Kellerstein, a doctor of naturopathic medicine in Toronto; apply twice daily for best results.
3. Cough soother
For a nagging cough or scratchy throat that threatens to keep you or your kids up, try 2 teaspoons of honey. (Don’t give it to babies under 1, though.) Honey coats the throat and helps thin mucus, says Ian M. Paul, MD, of Pennsylvania State University in Hershey.
4. Body polisher
You can get soft, smooth skin with this gentle, natural exfoliating body scrub, courtesy of Mii Amo spa in Sedona, Ariz.: Mix 1⁄4 cup honey, 3⁄4 cup raw sugar, and 1⁄4 cup olive oil; rub the mixture into wet skin, then rinse it off.

I’ve heard about #2, #3 and #4. But a hangover helper? Good to know!
I’ve also heard it’s good for allergies, but I’m not sure if that’s been scientically proven.
It has been scientifically proven that honey does not have any affect in regards to allergies.
I’ve also heard that you can mix one tablespoon of honey with one tablespoon of nutmeg as facial treatment.
But what kind of facial treatment?
Mix some warm water – 1 tablespoon of honey – and three tablespoon of vinegar. This works for cramps.
Sounds gross.
I can verify it works for allergies if you get honey from the area you are in. It may take awhile but I bought local honey and went from supper bad headaches and swollen eyes to nothing this year. Others had my headaches and reactions and I passed on the Honey tip. They tryed and it worked for them also.
It may help psychologically but scientifically the proof is not there.
for the cramps remedy.. do you eat it or what?
Comment for Jenn –
I often take a teaspoon of local honey when my allergies pick up. Once I was visiting my oldest daughter, a nurse, in upstate NY when allergies kicked in quite strongly. We went to the local farmer’s market with a spoon. Within a few minutes after taking the local honey, my eyes cleared and my nose stopped dripping. If it’s a placebo, it still worked for me.
For alergies, you are to take one tablespoon once a day for seven days, BUT the honey have to be from the bees of the area you live in. Bees collect the pollen from the flowers of the area that makes the honey, and it will help you build an ammunity to the pollen and helping you with the alergies.
That is incorrect. To say that honey can give you an immunity to the pollen it was made of? I’d really like to know where you heard that old wives tale.
I HAVE A BAD HEADACHE. WHO IT WORK ?
If you are using honey therapeutically, be sure not to damage its healing properties in the microwave! If it must be warmed, submerge the jar in warm water.
My mother’s cough remedy was equal parts honey, fresh lemon juice, and bourbon. Mix well and take by the teaspoon for coughs. Swallow slowly so it can coat your raw throat. You’ll sleep like a baby!
I have recently read an article which said that a grandmother had real bad hemroids and her dr was trying to get her to go in for surgery and she ate a lot of honey and the hemroids went away. When she saw her dr again he said he was glad she had gone and had the surgery as the hemroids were gone and she told him what she had done and he said he never heard of that.
My son had a dry patch on his face for weeks. I tried hydrocortisone cream and a fungal cream, in case it was ringworm or something. No amount of aquafor (which we used for exema) seemed to make a difference. My girlfriend, who’s into homeopathy told me to rub some local hone (right from the bees that hasn’t been processed) on the spot. My next door neighbor just happens to have beehives in her backyard and she gave me a piece of honeycomb with the honey. Voila…within 3 days the spot was gone..snf my son loved to have a little taste with each application.
Google search “honey and cinnamon” for even more benefits from pimples to cholesterol. Honey is awesome.
I HAVE ALLERGIES AND DOCTORS COULD NOT FIX ME, SO I STARTED TAKING BEE POLLEN FROM OUR AREA AND NOW I AM ALMOST ALLERGY FREE. BEES KNOW MORE THAN YOUR REGULAR DOCTOR…..THANK HEAVEN FOR OUR BEES, IRMA
How can one find honey made from the local bees, I mean the bees in one’s area?
Leena, go to a farmer’s market or to a county fair in your state. Most county fairs have local honey producers selling honey. Also Anderson’s stores in our area (Columbus Ohio) usually sell local honey.
I also have heard it is good for allergies. The only thing is you must purchase it from a local Beeman. It has to be from bee’s that get pollen from local flowers and trees.
I have use a mixture of 50% local honey and 50% vinegar for several years. I had arthritis in two of my finges when I started and eventually it went away and I don’t have arthritis anywhere. This mixture not only fights arthritis but allergies also.
how do you use the mixture of 50% local honey & 50% vinegar for your arthritis ? put it on the affected area or eat them ?
You would do better with Either Agave nectar, or Grade B maple syrup. They both come from trees, whereas honey is regurgiation from Bees (vomit), and your body doesnt digest it as well as a plant based sweetner, just see the Master Cleanse website for more details…. Have a Blessed day!
oh and BTW, doctors deal with the syptoms NOT the cure! See the ravediet.com or google it. Its also on Youtube.com for more details!
I used the “Boo Boo Mender” honey method and it really worked!! I had a deep cut on my finger and I put honey on it and sealed it every day and within three days it was virtually gone! I never knew honey had so many benefits!
As Vickie Gene says, I also used my gran’s (and great grandma’s) recipe of equal parts honey, lemon juice, and bourbon. Works like a charm! And NO, you don’t have to overindulge!!!
Hi. Does the honey work for mold allergies? Down in the subtropical climate, the hospital has it on their AC vents, our community building/church smells like mildew, and makes me congested and gives me a whopping headache. Ever heard of it working for an allergy to mold?
I mixed honey with warm milk to get rid of heartburn when i was pregnant. it totally worked as soon as i drank it and i was able to fall back asleep quickly!
Many times you can also buy local honey from your neighborhood produce stands. I have been using for years for allergies and the results are amazing!
I have read all the benefits of honey and cinnamon and thought how can I have these every day? Now, I put 1 teaspoon honey and 1 teaspoon cinnamon in my morning coffee!! It tastes great! Try it!
What will work for my Asthma and this once in a while high blood pressure? Please if you have a natural suggestion that I can get in Ogun State of Nigeria I will really be grateful. Because I dont need both in my life right now! thanks
Hangovers are caused by loss of water particularly in the neurons of the brain. Alcohol increases aldosterone levels (a hormone) which plays a role in glomerular filtration in the kidneys. Increased aldosterone increases the reabsorption of sodium and other ions in the renal system. To balance this high solute concentration now in the blood, water diffuses across cell membranes into the blood throughout the body. Much of this water loss comes from neurons in the brain due to the extensive vascular network.
i have allergies.and i used medicine which cause pimples on my face and getting fat. but now i use honey and my pimples are disappearing, and am starting loosing weight and am getting better wit my allergy thing.
Thus you are left with a headache/hangover until these cells are replenished with water. The increased amount of water entering the blood is why alcohol consumption causes one to urinate often and in larger quantities. Solution: drink water…if you can remember to have a glass of water for every time you urinate you will be fine in the morning as long as you are replacing the lost water with a roughly equal amount. You don’t have to drink water right after you urinate.
