Susan’s Blog Week 4: The Challenge of Eating Right While Traveling

I struggled a bit last week. I was back home for a family member’s funeral. Just trying to get there was a chore in and of itself. I spent over seven hours in the airport sitting and attempting to wait patiently to get to my destination. So much for planning my meals!!

I didn’t bring enough food to cover me and because every 15 minutes they kept threatening to board our plane, I didn’t want to leave the gate. I had to rely on some fruit and a flavor-and-fiber bar I brought with me to get me through. It was also a challenging week at work since I had to cover a week’s worth of tasks in just three days. The good news is I ate OK for the week overall and was able to exercise five days (although not as hard as I usually do). Sometimes you have to accept that things are not within your control and make the adjustment.

Being back home brought on some temptations which leads me to my challenge of the week: I struggled to eat on the schedule and monitor what I ate as easily I have over the past few weeks. It is hard to eat right when you are running from place to place and dealing with a large amount of stress. I made it through, though, so it is all good.

This week, I am going to focus on trying to get some sleep and get my workouts in. Being rested will certainly help my motivation. On to next week….
