Marie :
I also have some form of neuropathy and was basically couch ridden in "pain". I used to jog and walk but in recent years have become house ridden. Your case may be different but for me, a medication called gabipenton gave me some of my life back. It is often used for neuropathic pain and gives me more relief than any narcotic could (it is not a narcotic. It was first used to treat seisures I believe.)
It was my gateway to getting on a treadmill and being able to exercise. I am still taking it slow but if you can get a window of peace from your pain...start walking. I only walk a kilometer or two a day but I am now on my way to increasing my endurance and quality of life. Once you start walking, you will use adrenaline and release endorphins which will make you feel even better. My dream is to one day run again! Good luck Marie!!!

I'm sure that slow jogging has the same benefits as walking. I often go on a 7-mi jog that I swear is easier than walking would be.

And I would find that I didn't have time to walk the same distance and would find it boring as well. As it is, I bring an mp3 player with me and listen to audiobooks.

I am 68 year veteran of Indian defence forces. During my active service I was a regular squash player but was advised by doctors to select an alternate sport/exercise to avoid overstraining. During last ten years I have taken to long walks as my exercise routine. I find that brisk walking has helped me to improve my physical endurance and develp positive mental energy. Whenever, I felt a bit down, about 30 minutes of walking lifted my spirits a great deal. Walking is a 'wonder exercise' requiring no expensive equipment but delivering astounding benefits. Thanks for your superb article and the links.
