To get health benefits, you need a massage that applies moderate pressure. “Your skin needs to be indented as the therapist’s hands move across it,” says Tiffany Field, PhD, director of the Touch Research Institute at the University of Miami School of Medicine. Thanks Rob for the comment about male theripasts. Speaking of male, Asian and many European men embrace the benefits of the spa and massage therapy. It’s time for stressed-out Western men to learn to address their health needs. Perhaps then we can live as long as women.
Great article! I’d love to see more writing about the healing field of Massage Therapy!

No worries, Rob. I *prefer* a male massage therapist — they usually have bigger, stronger hands and give a more thorough deep-tissue massage than the female MT’s I’ve been to. Gimme a guy every time!
Shiatsu massage uses acupressure points along energy pathways (meridians), and usually incorporates other techniques such as palming, stretching, rocking, and myofascial release to achieve relaxation, balance and reduced stress.
