A new kind of spinning studio is a study in smart exercise. For $20 per session at San Francisco’s Connect 18 fitness studio (and dozens of other clubs across the country), you’ll embark on a virtual tour of an international destination and take a beginner lesson in that country’s language, all while sweating through 60 minutes of medium-intensity cycling.
Our tester “visited” Guadalajara, Mexico, and learned how to tell time and conjugate verbs in Spanish. She loved the distraction of the beautiful landscape and how the on-screen scenery went by faster as the class pedaled faster. that is such a great idea. you dont even have to wait until you gain pounds to tear it right back off with these fun sessions. i want to try it too, im a size 6 and im only 14!
Sounds pretty sweet. Along similar lines, a new company called Global Ride recently visited a club I go to and I took a “virtual ride.” They have these first-person perspective virtual cycling dvds that get projected onto a big screen at the club (or on your tv at home) which make you feel like you’re riding along with the road while you cycle. It was pretty cool, and a great distraction from the normal boring routine of indoor cycling.
